Vegansmart protein powder review-The truth about this powder

Spread the love

Looking to up your protein intake as a vegan or the vegan style? then you might be interested as I will be reviewing a product that could possibly be a good fit for you.

On today’s post I will be doing a vegansmart protein powder review to see if it is a good fit product for you or if it is not good overall.

I am writing this review because it is one of the products I recently bought in an effort to help me up my protein in my vegan diet since I am an athlete (a dancer) as you guys know now.

I have used several vegan protein powders but have never done a review about them.

I will be talking about whether this one worked for me or not and who it is for.

Before we start let us look a footage of the vegansmart options and few details of how to use it

Vegansmart protein powder overview

  • Price: $26.45
  • 20 grams of protein per serving
  • Cheapest place to buy:

Nutrition value

Let’s face it, most of the time people buy protein powders for increasing their protein nutrition.vegansmart protein powder review

This was the case with me too when I bought the vegansmart protein powder and so I will be looking at the nutritional value, focusing more on protein.

The nutrition in this vegan protein powder is what makes it different compared to other powders as I will be addressing in this article.

  • Great taste

Probably one of the best aspects that I loved about my vegansmart protein powder is the taste. Normally the protein powders I have tasted from my friends have had a bit of a chalk taste and stevia.

Funny thing is that I had almost started to accept that all protein shakes and powders had this taste, but when I bought my vegansmart online last week I was taken by surprise.

>>Check out my #1 recommendation vegan protein here<<

When I consume this shake I normally add something like flaxseed oil (which is what I use to increase my omega 3 fatty acids) and this completely blocks the aftertaste that I found in this protein shake.

  • Great as a meal replacement

So lately I have been so busy to even have lunch and the vegansmart has been very handy due to keeping me full throughout the day.

Since this vegan protein shake is filled with nutrient it is so convenient to make it a meal replacement in the morning or during lunch.

  • Nutrition-filled

If you have had the pleasure to taste many vegan protein shakes you will soon discover why this protein shake outperforms many vegan protein shakes.

Although I have not tasted all vegan protein shakes yet but with the close to 10 I have tried I have found this one has all the nutrients you can require compared to most vegan protein shakes with the downside being protein content.

If you look at the nutrition label you will see all the nutrition it has.

This powder is unique since it has ingredients which are not artificially made or even made from tests in labs, where most protein powders get their ingredients.

Below are what make the product very safe and healthy to consume;vegansmart protein powder review

  1. GMO-free
  2. Free from artificial sweeteners, colors and flavors.
  3. Free from soy
  4. Free from Transfats
  5. Free from gluten

These conditions are what made me very comfortable in buying this product since  I am very health conscious.

Most of these ingredients ,like GMO, can greatly affect your gut system in the long-run and so by having a protein shake that does not have this is what keeps me at ease.

  • Great and powerful natural ingredients

This vegan powder takes the crown when it comes to being made of great ingredient and this is the reason that it is easy to be a meal replacement.

The ingredients in the product have plant based such as potato, pea, chia and chlorella.

These are power foods when it comes to a vegan diet in giving a good deal of nutrition like zinc, vitamin C and protein.

In my view this is the best meal replacement shake you can ever have due to all the nutrition you get in one serving.

The sweeteners as you will see on the pack are organic. They come from organic cane sugar and organic rice syrup solids.

  • Super affordable

vegansmart protein powder review

If you compare this protein powder with other vegan protein shakes I can safely say this option is by far the cheapest especially if you are looking for the best vegan protein which has the most nutrition.

This is the reason why I did not think twice when I bought the Vanilla flavor after I ended up not liking the chocolate flavor.

I will still however try to see how I can make the chocolate flavor be better tasting by blending it with different foods. (I will probably do a post for that too).

When I look at the price I paid to buy the vegansmart protein powder and the amount of nutrition I get, compared to other plant based protein powders that is when I saw that I got value for my money for this product.

  • Great flavor options

The great thing about this is that the vegansmart protein powder all in one nutrition has many flavors to choose from.

This is true also with many other great vegan protein powders out there. They have 8 options.

  1. Chocolate
  2. Vanilla
  3. Wild berries
  4. Chai
  5. Peaches and cream
  6. Chocolate raspberry
  7. Cookies and cream
  8. Strawberry shortcake

I have only tasted two options here, the chocolate and Vanilla.

Now let us look at the negative sides of the vegan protein powder that I derived.

Please note this is what I did not like after I tasted it last week.

  • Chocolate flavor is too strong

When I first ordered I bought chocolate flavor and I must say I hated it because the smell is so strong and since I love chocolate it nearly made me hate chocolate.

The aftertaste made it worse for the chocolate after I had made the shake even after putting the flaxseed oil to help musk the taste it was the same.

But this is my opinion you can try it yourself and see.

The best flavors which were not strong were Vanilla and chia. Luckily I bought these two right after the chocolate flavor.

  • Protein is low for athletes

vegansmart protein powder review

This was a bit of a total turn off for me since the aim of this powder protein powder was to up my protein content in my body.

This is compared to all other vegan protein powders I have had in the past when I started the vegan diet.

The amount is very good do not get me wrong, I am just saying that if you are an athlete like me forget about increasing your protein with Vegansmart protein powder.

But if you are using this for cases unrelated to sports then this is a great source for that and possibly the best in all categories.

Related: Vegan food high in protein

This amount is even similar to a burger that I tried called a beef tasting burger called beyond meat burger and I did a review about it here if you are interested.

  • Not applicable for weight loss

My understanding is that this is a nutritional supplement so it would probably not work for weight loss purposes.

  • Amount in container is not enough

The other drawback I found is that Vegansmart protein powder does not fill the container.

This can be very deceiving for people when they look at buying the vegan protein powder.

As you can see on my container where it ends. Check the picture below.

  • Handling is not too great

The aspect I did not like about the vegansmart protein powder is that I had to dig deep in the powder in order to get the scooping spoon.

This may seem like something insignificant but to me this was frustrating and it was my first time experiencing this from a vegan protein powder.

vegansmart protein powder review

Now we get to the part where I give this protein shake a rating out of 10 based on what I view as very healthy.

The rating is based on the following factors:

  • Nutrition
  • Protein content
  • Taste

Let’s look at the first aspect, Nutrition.

  • Nutrition

If you consider the nutrition (based on the ingredients) of vegansmart protein shake it goes without saying that if you are looking for a protein powder to replace your meals as a busy person you will be a friend to the vegansmart protein powder.

As far as nutrition goes I give it 10 out of 10.

Now let’s look at protein.

  • Protein

Since you can replace your meals with this powder it is obvious that it has great amount of protein to cater for your daily requirements.

>>Check out my vegan protein product alternative here<<

Getting 20 grams of protein per serving is very great because this is about 50% of your daily protein requirement.

However, the bad side is that if you are an athlete like myself this powder may not be an adequate product as you will tend to need more protein.

For that you can get many other vegan protein powders to help you in that department.

So for regular people this would be a great powder for your protein shake. Nevertheless, the rate I will give here is based on my needs so since I am an athlete I will vouch and say I have had better vegan powders with higher protein.

So I will give it a rating of 8/10 for this one.

  • Taste

As I mentioned above it depends on the flavor you take. I enjoyed Vanilla but not too much of the chocolate as I said.

However, the overall score goes to the fact that the vegansmart protein powder has an overall great taste as it is not chalky like most vegan protein powders and the aftertaste is hardly there.

I would give it a 9/10 for the taste.

Overall score

Based on all of this vegan protein powder gets 9/10

Who would I recommend this protein powder to?

As mentioned above this product is based for people who are very busy and usually do not have time to eat since it is the best vegan meal replacement powders out there due to its full nutrition.

If you are an athlete I would still recommend it but maybe you will need to have more serving.

If you are an athlete who is not doing too much strength exercises than this protein powders can absolutely work for you but if you are an intense weightlifter or do a rigorous sport like rugby or maybe just a sport that involves a lot of cardio like me then it would be better to look for other option.

I am trying some other protein shakes and I will try to do a review for the once that I have used soon.

Other than that this is a great protein powder overall.

Final thoughts

When looking for a vegan protein powder it is very important to ensure you know what you want to gain mostly from it.

If you are looking for a vegan protein powder as a meal replacement than having a vegan protein powder like vegansmart protein powder is a great choice.

If however you are looking to a protein powder for solely increasing protein than there are some options you can check.

I have loved the vegansmart protein powder and even my girlfriend loves it since it is easy for us to use it when go coach our dance students in the morning when you do not have time to make food.

This protein has not only helped me as a meal replacement only but it has helped me get all the balanced vegan nutrition that is needed

This is great since, as you might know, a vegan diet tend to not give you all the required nutrition in one meal, you tend to try get it from all different kind of foods.

I hope you enjoyed my vegansmart protein powder review and I hope you have learnt about my experience using this protein powder.

If you have any questions you would like to ask or any comment to add you are welcome to leave them below. I will be more than happy to engage with you.

  1. Shirley

I’ve read your great Review of this protein powder and noted especially the nutrition information. Although 15g of sugar is a lot for a diabetic like myself, I may use this during my OMAD (one meal a day fast) when I don’t want to cook anything. I am not an athlete anymore, I’m in a wheelchair due to degenerative discs in my back. Thanks for finding this product and your review. I”m putting on my wish list. I wonder why the vanilla costs more than the chocolate?

    • Thabo Khoza

      Hey Shirley

Sorry to hear that you are in a wheelchair and you are diabetic.
I am glad you enjoyed this review and I am not sure why the prices are different maybe it depends on the customer demand between the tow.

  2. Jessica Lauren Vine

I’ve found that the really good protein powders have the most horrible tastes but you say this one is really good so I am curious!

I also have never been able to find something vegan that would work for what I want so this could be a good option.

Thanks so much for the awesome review. B-)

  3. Sam

This is a very thorough and revealing review. I use protein powder to supplement my workouts and occasional meal replacement. I am diabetic so it is good to know how much sugar is in this product.
I really like that you honestly stated that you didn’t like the chocolate one. I like chocolate flavors in my protein but just a mild touch.
I’ve been looking for a healthier meal replacement and the nutrition in this brand of powder is appealing.
Thank you for the great, honest review.

  4. Roberta

I really appreciate your honesty in this review. I use protein powder to supplement my workouts and once in a while as meal replacement. I like chocolate in mild flavors. Good to know about the too strong flavor. it still sounds like this powder will work for the occasional meal replacement with all of the nutrients.
Thank you for the thorough review and the 0 to 10 m
    ranking of the overall product.

I’m so happy I came across this article. I’m doing weight lifting for many years now and I like to get that extra protein boost after my workout, but I’m lactose intolerance and can’t use regular whey protein because I get spots and acne all over my face if I use dairy products. But it is so hard to find good vegan protein because most of them taste awful and mixes really poorly. And according to your review, this one tastes great. Another great thing that it doesn’t contains soy because 90% of soy products are genetically modified and this is not very healthy. This product just ticks all my boxes, thank you for this amazing review, I will definitely try this product out.

    • Thabo Khoza

      Hey Marius

I am so sorry to hear that you are lactose intolerance, I was just about to also recommend whey protein as another option together with vegansmart protein powder to you however you have just told me it does not work with you.

I would highly recommend vegansmart protein powder and ensure you also consume it with vegan protein bars as this will help you with the weight lifting that you are doing.
The vegansmart is great however if you are needing lots of protein you must supplement it with something.
      All the best

  6. Chris Peterson

Thank you for this review on protein powder. I had recently changed my diet to pescatarian and I do substitute breakfast quite often for a protein shake which gives me extra energy and has helped me in weight loss as well. I find that most manufacturers of protein powders usually don’t fill all the way to the rim. It is good to know they have a large variety in flavors. Thank you for all the information, I will put this one at the top of my list for my next purchase!

    • Thabo Khoza

      Hey Chris

I am glad this review was helpful to you. I had not noticed that most protein powder shakes do not fill all the way to the top.
Yes I also substitute with this products for meals where I am busy.
They are a great replacement for food.

  7. mike

I have had protein in so many shapes and sizes and yet never heard of vegan protein. Thinking about it now, I have had plant-based protein. I guess it’s all in the marketing. One thing I have figured out over years of training and tying proteins is that its hard to find a good tasting one. Organic Protein with probiotics comes to mind for one that I really liked as far as the flavor goes. ( it might be vegan, it’s plant-based as far as I know)

    • Thabo Khoza

      Hey Mike

Trust me you are not alone most people are not familar with vegan protein. I also started knowing it ever since I started a vegan diet in 2010.
I have tried only a few so I would agree that most do not really have a good taste.

    • Thabo Khoza

      Hey Eric

Yes another vegan to add to our community ha ha..I am glad this vegansmart protein powder review and I hope once you start the diet you can look at this protein and others.

Yes it is true that protein powders are addictive just like I have seen recently since I started.

  9. Josephine Crawford

This is a wonderful and honest review of this protein powder. I am usually not a fan of these and since I do consume some animal protein at some point of the week, then the need for protein powder is rare. I however saw where this one is GMO and Soy free. I am now so busy during the days, I will bookmark this because I love the meal replacement idea. The sugar content is high for a diabetic so I would have to do a balancing act for the rest of the day. Thank you.

    • Thabo Khoza

      Hey Josphenine

I am happy you found value from my review.

Yes the meal replacement factor of this vegansmart protein powder is the best one indeed since I do this often and it works wonders.
Of course for a diabetic it is still good as long as you balance with the right food indeed, But you should be fine if you are already eating a balanced meal.

  10. Amy Cain

Thank you for your thorough review. I’m always on the lookout for a protein powder with some fiber too. So this could be a good option to try out.

I am just a bit confused though. You said you liked the taste? But then you add flaxseed oil to block the aftertaste? Is that correct? The actual taste is good, but there is a distinctive or odd-tasting aftertaste?

    • Thabo Khoza

      Hey Amy

I am glad I could help you out. The taste of the chocolate is what I add to mask the taste however for the vanilla it is good. Yes, Both the flavors have an aftertaste of some sort so I just add flaxseed oil to get rid of it and I found it works very well.

  11. Kevin McNamara

    Hi Thabo,

Great post! I just ran my first marathon recently and head to the gym at least 3 times per week. I have never really worried about protein as I eat a little bit of meat (not too much) and love my green veggies.

This is a really thorough review of the Vegansmart protein powder and something I will definitely have to think about. Thanks for posting,

      Hey Kevin

I am happy to hear that you are taking care of your health and you are taking a good step by looking at such a product for protein intake as this can be a great enhancer.

  12. Fiona Chan

This is a wonderful and honest review of this protein powder. I like your review in that you include both pros and cons, as well as the factors to consider this product. I am not a big fan of this kind of product, but I think I have to be aware of my protein intake as well. I eat very little meat and a lot of veggies. Thanks for your review.! Well done

  13. Bailey

Thanks for this thorough and honest review. I have never tried protein powder before because I thought it was too expensive. This one is reasonably priced, though, and I like that it is made from whole foods and free of artificial ingredients. Since I am a vegan runner and tend to miss meals when I’m busy, it might be worth trying.

  14. John

Thanks for this very detailed post. I enjoyed reading it because you gave a lot of detailed information which is very helpful when deciding on a product to buy.

    Thanks for sharing.

  15. Simon

The sea algae Chlorella is a really good plant-based source of protein, and it doesn’t taste that bad either – sort of like a really strong cup of tea actually.
