A vegan diet can do a lot for many people only if they tried the vegan diet, just like how I did and it changed my life for the better in 2010.
Once you learn what are the benefits of a vegan diet and what happened to me you will begin to respect this diet just like me.
The vegan diet is more than just being a diet according to me, it is a lifestyle.
It is the reason why people in the old days use to live longer and were stronger against all sorts of diseases.
The vegan diet has endless health benefits which I will be talking about in this article.
Heart health-The vegan diet can even reverse heart disease
I thought I should start with the benefits to the heart when telling you about “what are the benefits of a vegan diet”.
This is because this links to my story of why I actually became vegan in the first place.
I have experienced this firsthand and it was the only diet which could helped me when I needed to unclog my heart arteries.
According to Havard medical School the vegan diet is the most effective diet in reversing heart diseases.
The other diet I would also recommend if you are not fully ready to go 100% vegan is the mediterranean diet.
This diet is also great and super effective since it is filled with foods high in omega 3 fatty acids like fish which help with the lowering of the unhealthy cholesterol levels in your body.
Diabetes management- if you are looking to control your diabetes then go vegan
According to a study by Plos Medicne Journal there was a link of using a plant based diet ,like the vegan diet, to prevent the development of type 2 diabetes.
The study discovered that what actually decreased diabetes levels was not merely following a regular plant based diet, but the diet must have high quality and healthy plant foods.
As I mentioned in the article that talked about the differences between a vegan and a vegetarian that the vegan diet is the best plant based diet since it has high quality plants.
While you may follow the vegan diet in an effort to curb diabetes it is to your best interest to still select the best plant foods while consuming the vegan diet.
This is more important for those who are following the junk vegan diet, which is the least healthy of all the vegan diets.
Below are the list of foods to focus more on for managing diabetes while on a vegan diet:
- Chia seed
This plant food is said to be very effective in managing diabetes due to its high fiber content and low digestive carbs.
What is more this seed is said to have a fiber component called viscous fiber which helps to reduce blood sugar levels in your body according to a study done at the US Natural Library of Medicine Natural Institutes of Health.
Nuts are normally great due to their fiber and low digestive carbohydrates.
You must, however be selective about the nuts and choose those with the lowest digestive carbs.
Do not worry I will give you which you need to focus on below according to the digestive carb content:
- Pecans-1.2 grams
- Brazil nuts-1.4 grams
- Macadamia-1.5 grams
- Walnuts-2 grams
- Hazel nuts-2 grams
- Almonds-2.6 grams
For those who do not know, turmeric is a spice which is used for many health benefits like heart disease and diabetes.
Despite many people only knowing about it now, this spice has been around for centuries in medical health and food consumption sector.
The turmeric is very powerful in lowering diabetes due to its ability to drastically reduce blood sugar levels as per the study done in 2013.
This is my number one seed when it comes to overall health. Why?
Well this is because flaxseed is a powerful seed which can be used for many diseases especially those connected to the heart and blood.
Flaxseed said has the effect of reducing your blood sugar levels due to the substance of lignan that it contains.
Broccoli is powerful plant which reduces the effect of diabetes by lowering overall insulin level.
Broccoli also helps protect your body cells from any harmful substances in the body which is critical for lowering blood sugar levels.
Garlic is another power food which helps lower blood sugar levels and can be just as effective as flaxseed.
Acne regulation- You can cure your skin
Did you know that adopting a vegan diet can make a huge improvement in your skin?
Yes this is true and research has also discovered that dairy is the number culprit when it comes to acne or any skin problems.
In fact, I discovered this from an experience that happened to my family member, my dad.
On one ordinary day he developed pimples which he could not get rid of even after going to several doctors.
What was amazing was that after he stopped eating yogurt (which obviously is a dairy product) the pimples on his skin disappeared almost immediately.
My dad is not the only person I have seen having this happen to him when stopping the yogurt consumpttion.
Many people are experiencing this and sadly msot of them end up not knowing what the problem is since they are at the mercy of the doctor.
So whenever you are in need of skin improvement or you have acne try adopting a vegan diet, even for a month and the see the outcome for yourself.
If you are clueless about how to start a vegan diet and you need guidance you can read this article called Vegan diet for beginners and you will be sorted otherwise you can send comment below or pop me an email to me.
Weight loss- The perfect fit for your weight management program
Most people in our vegan community join us through, either wanting to lose weight or wanting to maintain their weight.
Due to the vegan diet being plant based and also it excluding any animal foods and animal by-products it comes as no surprise why so many people opt for this diet for weight loss programs.
In fact, I also ended up loosing weight when I decided to be vegan back in 2010.
What was weird was that I never even intended on losing weight but the diet did that for me.
You get fresher breathe and odor.
If there is any reason why you would want to join a vegan diet it would be for this part.
Most vegans tend to have fresher breathe than their counterpart carnivores/ominivore and science has even backed this up.
I wrote about the research on this subject on my previos post, You can check it here if you wish…
Anyway the fresher breathe benefit also comes as no surprise due to the fact that the vegan diet is loaded with fiber rich foods, in fact 98-100% of the foods have fiber in them.
It is an environmentally friendly diet
As I mentioned on my previous post that many people also tend to turn vegan due to the consciousness to the environment and also to animal welfare.
It is true that the effect of industrial farming to the world is going to catch up with us and many studies have been done about this issue.
Industrial farming is said to be a huge contributor to global warming
The vegan diet is filled with many benefits for the body but it can also have negative effects if you do not understand how to consume the right food with the right vitamins.
Following a vegan diet will give you health benefits such as reducing diabetes, heart disease, acne.
A vegan diet can also benefit the environment since the more people focus on it the more there will be a need for industrial farming which is the huge contributor for environmental degradation.
At the end of the day choosing a vegan diet can benefit you and the world at large.
