Welcome to my article where I will be talking about my experience as a vegan and answer the question I usually get” Is being a vegan expensive?.
It is without a doubt that a plant based diet is becoming popular by the day as more people are looking for ways to take care of their health and bodies.
In fact in 2019 the vegan diet was said to be one of the most popular diets out there along with others like the Mediterranean diet.
However, when it comes to the vegan diet the hard thing is that most people are not well-informed and end up going about it in the wrong way.
I know I had that dilemma too, however I will be clearing all the misconception for you.
Without further ado, let’s get started with the article.
Basics of a vegan diet
In this section I will start off by talking about the vegan diet so that you will know what a vegan diet is and entails.
The simple definition of a vegan diet is that it is a plant based diet which exclude all animal food like meat, chicken and fish.
Unlike the vegetarian diet which only exclude the above food I just mentioned the vegan diet is even more restrictive as it also excludes any time of animal by-product or product like cheese, milk and more.
There are also different types of vegan diets that one needs to be aware of and they are the following:
- Junk Vegan diet
- Raw food vegan diet
- Low-fat, raw food
- Engine 2 diet
- The 80/10/10 Law Fat Raw diet (fruitarian diet)
- The starch solution program
- SOS-Free Plant based diet.
So you can choose from any of these depending on your food preferences.
So if you hear someone talking about a vegan diet they are not specific because there is different categories and types.
This can also depend on of the location in the world where you are at when it comes to what they eat.
For example if you go to the South Part of Asian you will see a lot of Raw food vegan diet starch solution but if you go to many western countries you will be able to see Junk vegan diet the most.
Let us now go into the expensive of the vegan food and if it is in fact true that a vegan diet is expensive.
The simple answer this question I will say that this depends on various factors and these are what I will talk about today.
1. The type of vegan food you get
The first factor which can determine if the vegan food you eat is expensive is due to the type of food you get.
If you go for the processed type of food like those vegan sausages which have been premade and ready for you to just put in the pan or pot to heat and eat then you will be paying quite a bit for that.
On the other hand if you buy food that you will be able to make yourself you will be able to save a ton.
The other aspect is that the food you must be buying must generally be natural and that is normally easy to get since it is mainly made of vegetables.
The one aspect that you also need to keep in mind is the fact that most vegan have been able to survive well and live well with mainly vegetables and it is easier than you think.
When I started out as a vegan long time ago I spent a lot on processed vegan food which did not help me at all since I was still starting out in this journey.
So to help you make your vegan journey good is to look for natural food mainly like your fruits and vegetables and tofu which you can make at home yourself.
You will need to learn how to make these but it is not hard at all to do and we will talk about this later.
2. The places you buy from matter
The next aspect to look at is the places that you decided to go buy at when it comes to your food.
My best advice is to go to normal supermarkets or just grow your own produce if you can so that you will be able to not have any issues.
The reason most people end up saying vegan food is expensive is because they buy their food at places which promise to give you high quality at a large price.
At the end of the day the food you get at supermarkets is not really too different from these “so-called” high quality places”
Remember the key thing is that you will still have to go home and boil those veggies and stuff and ensure all is good and you can make as much as possible since you are mostly making veggies and fruits and a little more.
3. Looking at other resources that can help you (How you make your food)
The other aspect to look at is how you can go about making the best and food or recipes and these can be food in many places such as blogs and YouTube Channels.
The internet has given us so many resources to help us make any recipes and you can simply follow any of the channels and find many recipes from many of the channels.
Heck, you can even make your own recipes with the inspiration from all these blogs and channel like I did a few years a go when I struggled to start the vegan diet.
When it comes to a vegan diet most people always complain or think that the diet is expensive and that they can not really follow it.
The other aspect is that the vegan diet is said to be the most restrictive diet and if you do not know what you are doing it could end up being a disaster.
The vegan diet is simply not expensive because it all depend on various factors such as the following:
- Places you buy the vegan diet
- The type of vegan diet food you get
- How you make your food
So all in all the diet is relatively inexpensive if you go about it in the right or correct way following the factors I followed myself in the past few years.
