How women over 50 years old get effected

Before I talk about how to lose weight after 50 for women it is vital that I address the issue of what affects women at this age.

There are many things which happen to a woman’s body when they reach 40 years old and understanding all of this would be great for you to take the right steps.

In this section I will be unloading things you need to know.

Here are things that affect women over 50 years old when it comes to weight loss:

  • HormonesHow to lose weight after 50 for women

When it comes to weight for women over 40 years old hormones are exactly the main culprits because they are the first interrupted.

The hormones of a woman is said to start a little bit earlier than what is called menopause. This is a stage which is said to introduce menopause.

Most people do not know about this stage and assume that women just enter menopause without any warnings whatsoever.

Well this is not true the body goes through a preparation period called perimenapause.

According to medical news today perimenapause is a stage which happens 1-3 years before menapuase (at age 40-45).

To some women this can happen 10 years earlier than normal.

Perimenapause occurs at age 40 generally and is said to completely stop the woman’s egg production although she can still get pregnant.

According to Mayo clinic changes in hormones for women at this stage causes more belly fat gain rather than thigh and arms.

This can also lead to overall weight gain if a person is not physically activity and but still continues with their eating habits.

Energy levelsHow to lose weight after 50 for women

Another huge effect at the age of 40 and above is the decrease in energy levels and this is the reason you see most woman even lazy to exercise.

According a research study which was done the rate of energy decrease was found to be huge for people at age 40 years.

This would also be contributed by the hormones of course but this effect can be the most crucial and even dangerous for your body.

This is because when your energy levels are low you tend to be lazy to your normal daily tasks and even avoid exercising.

When you do this for a long time your body can easily accumulate weight everywhere without you noticing.

Genes are also a major factor when it comes to weight for any person and it becomes more profound in people over 40 years old.

This is because genes can actually dictate how much your cells store fat in your body.

That is the reason that you see other people not needing to exercise and they look good at any age no matter what they eat.

Metabolic rate

The metabolic rate is also similar to your genes in that some people have more of it compared to others.

The only problem with metabolism is that it decreases as we age and this affects any person or any gender or race.

However, there is light at the end of the tunnel. This is because the metabolic rate can actually be influenced or increased somewhat.

Using things like exercise and cold water are just a few ways to help increase it. I wrote an article about this and you can check it on the post called how to lose weight without exercising.

. Now I will go into the steps of how you can actually

1. Focus on the right food

How to lose weight after 50 for women

This is one of the most crucial aspects for people over 50 years old who are looking to lose weight and keep it off their bodies.

I will even go as far as to say you need to change your diet if it is necessarily or if you can do so.

According to solutions for living at home seniors tend to eat junk food because of the fact that they are often lazy to cook a nutritious meal (there energy levels are not the same as before).

The other reason is that seniors have diminished tasted buds which cause them to crave even the most sugar filled foods.

As a 50-year old it is vital to ensure you focus on a diet which will help you keep your weight off.

There are many diets which you can purpose and the following are the best

  • Mediterranean diet
  • Vegetarian diet
  • Keto diet

If you see above I did not talk about the vegan diet. This is because if you decide to start the vegan diet at 50 and you are not clued-up it could cause huge damage to your body

This is because when you eat a vegan diet there are many nutrients you can end up missing out if you do not have the proper guidance with the diet.

I should know what I am talking about because I was in the same boat 10 years ago and had to learn the hard way.

But once you understand the diet your health becomes the best.

The other aspect you should keep in mind is that as you get older your body start losing muscle and that muscle becomes fat.

This happens more to people who are over 50 as their body is becoming more restricted.

When you have lower muscles and more fat your metabolism rate increasing to a very exponential level.

I know this because my father has always been thin since he was a child until he reached 49 years old. In fact many people were shocked to see the weight he had gained.

You see it doesn’t matter how good of genes you have, if you get to 50 years old your metabolic rate will decease drastically.

So is there a way to combat this?

Yes there is and that is doing strength training or resistance training. This will help your body increase your metabolic rate by boosting your muscle mass.

A study from found that strength training four times a week was safe for people who are over 45 years old.

3. Relieve any stress

Relieving stress is what I want to stress that you should follow (Excuse the pun).

Stress is the worst thing which could happen to any person who is above 50 years old due to the fact that their body will be easily effected.

According to a new study by it revealed that stress is the most dangerous tool which can deteriorate the body in one go whereby your gums and your whole system will be very susceptible to many disease.

The good thing is that we can all control our stress if we deice to and all it takes is engaging on activity which will keep you happy mostly.

These could include:

  • Watching comedy movies
  • Being around people who make you happy
  • meditating
  • doing our passion.

Sleeping is one not just important for keeping your refreshed but did you know that it is vital for weight loss too.

Yes sleep is one of the keys that are now used to help people lose weight.

People who have inadequate sleep are prone to over eating especially snacks at night which can contribute a lot to weight gain.

It is recommended 6-8 hours as you would know so it is vital that we do not take this old advice for granted.

5. Do a regular check on your health

As you get older you will really need to keep checking up on your body to make sure that everything is intact and going well.

This is vital because at this stage you will be vulnerable to many disease since your immune system becomes a bit weaker.

virus like the coronavirus can be able to attack your body easily.

This is the reason older people are the ones who get effected easily by the coronavirus.

I must say I have to agree with everything you said. Proper eating, some kid of physical exercise and an active lifestyle is what keeps me from gaining the fat back. The bottom line is we now eat way too much for the activities we do on a daily basis. Our bodies are so efficient that it tries to store the energy for later like in the cave man days. Then add all the wheat products, processed foods and the sugar, no wonder everyone is over weight.
You give great advise for anyone wanting to lose those pounds.

I find it super interesting that most health issues are resolved by our diet, activity level, quality sleep, and stress. A lot of adults and children alike are overweight now due to the pandemic. Sitting at home to work and learn is not healthy. Thanks for sharing this article.
